Description:

ERNST VAN LEYDEN (DUTCH, 1892-1969)
KARIN VAN LEYDEN (GERMAN, 1906-1977)

Wall Mural for 2102 S. Warson Rd. Ladue, MO 1951
Acrylic on reverse painted glass tiles, signed and dated lower right. Surrealist paradasaic landscape with horses and sheep in pasture, pyramids background.

Provenance: The work was featured in the July 1, 1951 edition of St. Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper in article entitled "Lavish Interiors" showcasing the custom mural and the residence at 2102 S. Warson for a Mr. and Mrs. Charles H. Yalem of Ladue, MO. Total tile height: 85.5" height; total width of tiles: 180" ; each panel width: 45" width

    Condition:
  • The farthest top left glass tile has a broken off and missing upper right corner on that tile. The 5th tile down from that same upper left corner has a small crack at the upper left of that tile, but all is present there with no losses. And the farthest right tile to that near-black pine tree to the right of the white center that is painted with the last of the blue 'water' (2 small triangles of blue water are on this tile) - that tile is cracked but you can not feel the crack, only see the line, so there are NO losses to that broken tile (4th tile down from the top) and it is not so noticeable. A few very minor edge chips that are hardly worth mentioning.
