How Do I Consign to an Auction?

Selkirk prides itself on being a full-service auction firm. Exceeding your selling expectations and connecting you to buyers all over the world is what drives our efforts daily.

Consigning with Selkirk is simple. Give us a call at 314.696.9041 to speak with a qualified consignment specialist or submit an online inquiry.

The consignment process begins with an informal evaluation of your timeline, needs and items. Estimates for working with us will always be provided up front; and, conservative estimates of value for your items may be provided upon request. Once an agreement to consign is reached, Selkirk is ready, willing and able to provide expert, professional staff to pack and transport your consignment. The Selkirk team travels all over the country to evaluate and pick up consignments. Our team will always provide a detailed receipt of the objects we accept for consignment; a pre-auction notification with descriptions and estimates; and, a complete reconciliation of the auction results with your settlement proceeds. Our no-nonsense terms do not include additional fees for photography, handling or online auction services. We strive for a simple, fair, straighforward and transparent experience for our sellers.

Why Selkirk?

Selkirk Auctioneers & Appraisers is led by a seasoned and respected team of professionals who are recognized for their work with our sister company, Garth's Auctioneers & Appraisers. By combining the resources of both firms, sellers with Selkirk (and Garth's) will achieve unparalleled exposure for their items while receiving the legendary "high touch" customer service for which our team is known.

These are just a few of the reasons our clients choose Selkirk:

  • Location: Selkirk is located in downtown St. Louis within the historic central business district
at 555 Washington Avenue – between the Missouri Athletic Club and the National Blues Museum. Additionally, the greater St. Louis area is home to a sophisticated population with a long history of support for art and antiques. Easily accessible to both the East and West coasts, Selkirk in St. Louis is positioned to be the best location to sell your items.

  • Efficiency: Selkirk accepts consignments of single items as well as lifetime collections. A consistent and full calendar of auctions means we can generally accommodate the sale of your item(s) within a reasonable period of time.

  • Integrity: Unlike many other auction firms, we do not buy items for resale. This important distinction means that Selkirk is always working on the right side of the transaction - yours.  We will never try to negotiate a lower price with you, because your consignment agreement makes us a team working toward the same goal: achieving the highest price for your item(s).  Also, we do not bid at our auctionsBuyers never have to worry about the transparency of the bidding process at Selkirk. They trust that their bids will be executed faithfully and carefully, with no insider bidding. What does this mean for our sellers? Buyers who trust their auction house will bid more.

  • Reach: By combining our network of collectors, dealers and institutions with our sister company, Garth's Auctioneers & Appraisers, Selkirk reaches tens of thousands of qualified bidders with every auction. Additionally, our auctions are published on the most visible auction websites in the world, reaching millions of potential buyers. Bidding is conducted simultaneously online and "in-the-saleroom," with live audio and video feeds for most events. An aggressive marketing, public relations and communications strategy utilizes a proprietary approach to print and digital media to maximize the attention to your items.

  • Expertise: The care and attention we have given to growing our market share has also been applied to developing strong relationships with top experts in nearly every field, giving you access to the most knowledgeable, qualified individuals for the items you consign. By leveraging expertise both on staff and through our consultants, Selkirk can offer you all the benefits of working with a large auction firm while maintaining a personal relationship with easy, direct access to every member of our team.

With each and every lot sold, Selkirk demonstrates an expertise in selling materials ranging from antique to modern furniture, fine art, folk art, jewelry, bespoke collectibles, silver, firearms, dolls, toys, historic objects, American Indian items, Oriental rugs and more.

Selkirk is poised to successfully promote any collection whether you are parting with one item or a lifetime's collection. Wondering if your items are right for Selkirk? Submit an online inquiry.
