EPHEMERA RELATED TO GENERAL NATHANIEL LYON
American, 19th century, paper ephemera. Five (5) items related to Brigadier General Nathaniel Lyon, the Commander of Union Troops of Missouri and the first Union General to be killed during the Civil War at the Battle of Wilson's Creek, consisting of a 1861 carte de visite, a 1862 memoriam card published by L Prang & Co, a 'topsy-turvy' metamorphic envelope, an "A General Lion" envelope, and a memoriam envelope.

    Provenance:
  • From the Collection of John F. Bradbury, Jr., longtime archivist and director of the State Historical Society of Missouri's Rolla Research Center in Phelps County. John was a historian specializing in the Civil War period with a dedicated and distinguished career to studying and promoting the history of the Missouri Ozarks region.
  • Condition:
  • Clipped corners to the carte de visite; a tear to the bottom left corner of the memoriam card and light staining, the envelope cut open to the right side and stained; light staining to the General Lion envelope; the 'topsy-turvy' envelope with staining to verso (possibly previously glued down in an album).

Shipping

Shipment is the full responsibility of the buyer. Selkirk will not be responsible for any loss, damage, theft, or otherwise responsible for any items left in Selkirk's possession fifteen (15) days after the sale. If arrangements for shipping have not been made and communicated within thirty (30) days, Selkirk reserves the right, at this time, to charge a storage fee of $10 per lot per day for furniture and large format items and $5 per lot per day for all other items, and within sixty (60) days, at its own discretion, sell any items left on the premises. Accumulated fees resulting from storage and insurance cost will be taken out of any proceeds.

Objects that contain materials of endangered or protected species may be subject to regulations disallowing export and import into other states or countries. It is the buyer's responsibility to be aware of all applicable laws and regulations and to obtain any required export or import licenses or certificates and any other required documentation.
