Alan Uglow was born in 1941 in Luton, England, relocating from London to New York in 1969. In 1975, his work was included in the Whitney Biennial. After being approached by Mary Boone Gallery to participate in a group show in 1978, Uglow had his first one-person painting show with Boone, later that year 1978. After a second one-person painting show at Boone, in 1979, Uglow left Mary Boone Gallery. He subsequently joined Lorence-Monk Gallery, (1985–1991), and Stark Gallery (1993–2002). Beyond paintings, Uglow also made objects, sound-and-visual installations, photographs and prints. Uglow's work is in private and public collection internationally, including the Cincinnati Art Museum; Gemeentemuseum, the Hague; High Museum, Atlanta; Le Consortium, Dijon, France; Musée des Beaux-Arts, La Chaux-de-Fonds, Switzerland; Kaiser Wilhelm Museum, Krefeld, Germany; Museum Wiesbaden, Wiesbaden, Germany; National Gallery of Iceland, Reykjavik, Iceland; Sammlung Goetz, Munich, Germany; Sammlung Lafrenz, Hamburg, Germany; Staatliche Museen zu Berlin, Berlin; Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam, NL.

Shipping

Shipment is the full responsibility of the buyer. Selkirk will not be responsible for any loss, damage, theft, or otherwise responsible for any items left in Selkirk's possession fifteen (15) days after the sale. If arrangements for shipping have not been made and communicated within thirty (30) days, Selkirk reserves the right, at this time, to charge a storage fee of $10 per lot per day for furniture and large format items and $5 per lot per day for all other items, and within sixty (60) days, at its own discretion, sell any items left on the premises. Accumulated fees resulting from storage and insurance cost will be taken out of any proceeds.

Objects that contain materials of endangered or protected species may be subject to regulations disallowing export and import into other states or countries. It is the buyer's responsibility to be aware of all applicable laws and regulations and to obtain any required export or import licenses or certificates and any other required documentation.
