Chromolithograph, 1875. "Designed by Mrs. Chauncey I. Filley" located centrally in lower margin with "Copyright, 1875, by Mrs. Ch. I. Filley, St. Louis" lower left. Bottom text reads "In commemoration of the One Hundredth Anniversary of American Independence. __To aid in establishing a Trade School for colored women at St. Louis, Missouri". Image of an elder white man and an elder black man with handcuffs on the ground, with an infant white boy and an infant black boy hand cuffed off to the side, and the dates 1776 and 1876 incorporated into the image.
This image was designed by the wife of then St. Louis' mayor Chauncey Filley, as she designed this image to raise money for the trade schools of the time. Full card 15.1"h. 11.25"w. Frame 18.75"h. 14.75"w.

  • Condition: Strong colors throughout with some minor issues along the outer borders (margins) of the full image. The image (under glass) seems to be on a thick stock or perhaps a thin cardboard of the time, and fully visible under the glass. There is a very small loss at the top right corner where you can see the 'cardboard' that the image is on. This lot has NOT been examined out of the frame.
