Unsigned. Tulips and hydrangea in a clear vase. Gilt frame, notated Kathryn Cherry to verso.

Kathryn E. Bard Cherry (American 1860-1931) was born in Quincy, Illinois. She paved the way to become one of the most prominent artists in St. Louis in the early 20th century. She began her education at the St. Louis School of Fine Arts and subsequently with Richard Miller at the New York School of Arts in addition to Hugh Breckenridge at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. Throughout her time there, she painted landscapes, marine scenes, and floral still lives in an impressionist manner.

Cherry began her career as an artist working floral themes and porcelain. She attended the 1904 St. Louis World's Fair, where she was the only female who was awarded a gold medal. She began to display her works at the St. Louis Artist's Guild in 1908 and was included in many exhibits at the St. Louis Art Museum. Cherry eventually became the head of the Principia Junior College Academy in 1915 and shifted to painting on canvas instead of porcelain pieces. Her works feature many scenes at Gloucester, Massachusetts where she spent summers at her Rocky Neck studio.
