Description:

TWO 19TH C. MINIATURE PORTRAITS ON IVORY
Neither signed, notated to verso Mrs.Charlotte Milleins Prine (Hoffman), 1808-1894, and Mr. Edmond Prine (1802-1883), the first notated "Painted in 1886 by Miss Anne Hall", the latter "Painted in Paris, artist unknown". Both behind glass in matching bird's eye maple frames.

  • Dimensions: Sights: 3 3/4 x 3 1/4 in. (9.53 x 8.26 cm.), frame: 7 3/4 x 6 1/2 in. (19.69 x 16.51 cm.)
  • Condition: These have not been examined out of their frames. The backs are mounted with nails and adhesive of some sort. Viewing from the front, the female image looks to be in good condition under the glass and the gentleman, a smaller work, has either a giltwood or giltmetal matting allaround, and there appears to be a vertical crack in the upper right corner that travels downward a bit more than half-way and turns off toward the outer framing (to the right). The frames are nice, but do note that there are vertical age cracks and if you look at the gold painted interior bevels on the frames you will see those age cracks.
