Description:

TWO GADGET CANES
20th century, 1933 Chicago "A Century of Progress" World's Fair metal flashlight cane together with a vintage advertising/American parade flag cane for Smith-Orr Company. Longest: 36" length.

  • Condition: Blue metal shafted cane with flag reads to the side of the shaft "Compliments of Smith-Orr Company - 14351 W. Warren - OR 0700 - Wholesale Lumber * Millwork * Roofing * Siding - 7 ACRES OF BUILDING SUPPLIES" with several scratches to the blue metal showing more scratches the farther down the shaft you get towards the floor. The gold painted wooden knob that pulls out of the shaft with the American flag on it is in fine condition.
The Chicago World's Fair flashlight cane has a reeded metal shaft with some minor abrasions and scratches. Note that the light fixture that should slide out of the top of the cane once you remove the knob won't come out as the clip that holds the light in place within the shaft, that clip is BENT, so you can not remove the light to replace a battery. The removable knob is also of blue metal with a thick lens to the end where you can see "A CENTURY OF PROGRESS - 1933 - CHICAGO" beneath the lens. The exterior of the knob just above where it would fit into the shaft has markings of "VIDRIO PRODUCTS CORP. - CICERO, ILL. - Pat. No. 1,848,526"
